Their Shadow

This evening, I spent some time cleaning and sorting through my 2009 image collection when I came across this photograph. I know what you’re thinking… hasn’t every photographer out there shot a version of their shadow in the sunlight? Yup! It’s time for me to join the party and add to that collection! I shot this image last October while out with my dog, Lincoln, attached to my hip. He makes an ideal companion and a perfect model for testing out technique.

Six-20 Brownie Junior Antique Camera

The Six-20 Brownie Junior may not taste as good as a chocolate desert, but it sure did take some gorgeous photographs back in its day. Below are some shots of the EASTMAN KODAK Co. Six-20 Brownie Junior (1934 – 1942) with the art-decó face. The camera belonged to my grandfather, Douglas Morom.

According to Camerapedia.org, “The Six-20 Brownie Junior remains faithful to the principles which made the success of Brownies but it improves the way this camera is manufactured. The paperboard remains the main component but metal (almost) replaced wood for the body. This camera manufactured in US has been proposed with two different front faces : black front face and art-decó face. No diaphragm on this simple camera. The aperture, which consists of two holes, is selected by pulling a tab on top of the camera.”

Portraits of Pell

Steve and I are always shooting together. Having each other by our sides, we often end up photographing one another. I shot these two images of Steve in St. Jacobs, Ontario inside an old tunnel used for the Mennonites to travel through with their horses back in 2006. We spent quite a few nights at this tunnel, experimenting with daylight, evening and pitch black conditions.
