Persistence Pays Off

Have you ever noticed how a child’s short attention span gives way to amazing persistence when the task is something she really wants; for example, learning to walk, tying a shoe, whistling a tune, batting a ball? And when the child falters at any of these tasks, the adults respond with encouragement, patience and applause for the effort.

The other day, the Dominican Sisters – Grand Rapids approached me interested in using a drawing that I did back in 2001 of a young girl learning to tie her shoe in their newsletter on persistence. This drawing appears in their May 2010 newsletter, available both in online and printed format.

Me to We Style at the U of T Bookstore

Last month, I had an opportunity to work with the University of Toronto’s Bookstore, photographing an advertisement for the clothing line, Me To We Style. The client had a very strict idea in mind of what they wanted in terms of location, angle, model, and clothing.

Following the shoot, the layout artists put together this final composition after selecting the shot they felt would best suit their needs. This is the design proof of the image, thus it is a bit blurry and the type is not fully set.

Me to We Style is committed to providing ethically manufactured, quality apparel for the socially conscious consumer. This product line is domestically produced, sweatshop-free and made using certified organic cotton and bamboo. In addition, 50 per cent of the profits goes to their charity partner, Free The Children, to support development projects in rural and impoverished areas across the globe. Panorama of the Air Canada Centre in Toronto

According to their website, the “Air Canada Centre is located in the heart of downtown Toronto and is easily accessible by foot, car or public transit”.

Back in November of 2008, I was invited to sit in the one of the box seats at the Air Canada Centre for a game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Rangers. I decided to bring along a camera and try my skills at a panoramic of the entire view of the game from the box seat.

CN Tower 180-degree Panoramic View

Defining the Toronto skyline, the CN Tower is the world’s tallest building and free standing structure. This shot was created by stitching 18 photographs into one, each shot at a slightly different angle. I was able to stitch a 180 degree view of the view of downtown Toronto from above. This project was challenging, but resulted in a beautiful downtown city panoramic. Thank you to Steve for his assistance in making this shot successful.

Forged Cutlery Knives for all Purposes

Forged knives undergo a treatment process to enhance the flexibility, density, and hardness of the knife. Forged knives tend to be heavier than stamped knives but are much better balanced. Forged knives are hand made through a process of extreme heat and hand moulding. The tang of the knife merges into the handle and is typically secured by three rivets.

The following images were shot for stock photography purposes. Pictured here in the following order from top to bottom: Bread Knife, Chef’s Knife, Santoku Knife, Boning Knife, Utility Knife, Paring Knife, Petite Paring Knife. The knives are all available from Pampered Chef’s website.
